Can I create a website with the domain of a company name?
I created a website with the name of my apartment building dot com. I created it for the sole purpose of putting my experience living in the building online so other people see it. I.E my review of the building or yelp.com times 10.
This website is now #1 on yahoo #2 on bing.com and msn.com and #5 on google.com if you type in the apartment name in to the search box.
My question, Can I legally do this? I know I can write reviews online and in a sense this is what I am doing. I just bought a domain that happens to be the same as the apartment name.
I am not slandering the complex everything I say on there is true and I have proof to back it up if need be.
I am also wondering if they can retaliate and try to evict me if i refuse to take it down? I am in California and i think it is illegal for a landlord to retaliate.
No, you can not legally use their company name without their consent. They can sue you and they will win, they will win A LOT of money.
They can evict you for illegal activity. This would not be retaliation, simply eviction for illegal activity.
